7G - Lorian Janine

THE SEVEN SERIES
Article by Marie White

Lorian Janine is a budding musician finding her voice in the world.

Lorian grew up in a musical family with her siblings all playing different instruments, guiding her to find music at a young age. She remembers her childhood being filled with gospel, jazz, and classical music, which influenced her style. At age nine, she began consistently playing violin, which continued into her late teens and helped her write and compose her music.

To this day, she believes her style of music is a combination of all her influences in life. Her first two singles she released combined indie-folk, and neo soul for a sound that came from within. All her musical influences throughout her life have meshed together to make the unique sound you hear today.

She uses the building blocks that came naturally to her to create her music. For her, music is spiritual, and she brings her faith into everything she does.

“My faith is everything to me,” Lorian said. “People can tell there is a lot of love at the base of my music, and that comes from my faith.”

In her daily life, Lorian is a resource support teacher for eighth-grade students. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University in the fall of 2021 with a degree in special education, with a focus on cognitive impairment. She gives lots of love to Ypsilanti and her hometown of Detroit for being instrumental in her growth.

In her journey as an artist, sharing music from her heart drives that passion. She believes that the best building blocks of her music are vulnerability and love. She wants her music to span generations of listeners and give everyone something to relate to.

“With every song, I feel like there’s a natural part of me that wants to teach a lesson,” says Lorian.

Musically, she wants her audience to feel the messages she shares from within. “At the end of the day, I want people to know they are seen and not the only ones going through stuff,” said Lorian.

Lorian credits her involvement in the 2022 Amplify Fellowship as instrumental in becoming the musician she is today. The project fostered her growth and movement into a singer.

“I credit [the Amplify project] so much to where I am now,” Lorian said. “Being introduced to the creative community as a whole, because it can feel really lonely, and it’s so nice to have a community and meet other people like you and on their journey too.”

Lorian wants to introduce herself with her new music. Releasing her first single, the aforementioned “Figure it Out” in July 2024. Her debut album will be released in July 2025 called “Dear Nice Girl.” Which will be released on all streaming platforms.
